The Bestiaries of Déchiré

While beings such as the Ævani, the Sabhakhi, and some Kha'ara are generally accepted as equals by the humans of Déchiré, those whose differ greatly in form or are of frightening visage tend to be viewed - regardless of sentience - as beasts. What treatment these creatures receive varies on the region - in the enlightened empires, efforts are made to welcome all entities with suitable morals and the ability to communicate, though individuals may hold their own prejudices nonetheless. In other lands - particularly those with a fear of magic and the unholy - 'beasts' may be subject to being driven out of town, enslaved, or even killed.
