The Bestiaries of Déchiré - Hybrids

In all instances recorded here, the species making up the torso is listed first.

Centaurs - Half-human, half-equine. Large bands of centaur are found most often in the forests and plains of Zairath and the savannahs of southern Al-Khor. Local bands may come together to form a larger moot at the turning of the seasons or when an extended threat is present. Normally a pacifistic race, centaur are nevertheless skilled warriors and will not hesitate to defend family and habitat. In general, males are providers and fighters and females healers and caretakers, but even the most delicate filly can prove to be a formidable foe.

Linnirs - Half-human, half-lion. Linnir dwell in the deserts of Al-Khor. Their packs are formed of seven to ten stationary members, of which perhaps two individuals will be male. The primary purpose of these males is to sire cubs - the lionesses hunt, defend, and raise the young of the pack, and the men are left to oversee the next generation while their mates roam. The exception to this is during times of war, when the lionesses will stay behind to protect the pack-lands while the males present themselves at the front lines. Linnir are extremely territorial, and pack-lands are often hereditary - space is at a premium as each generation grows, and disputes over a patch of sand can be extremely violent. Female cubs are more likely to remain with their families than males, which are driven from the pack-lands by their sires upon reaching maturity.

Minotaurs - Bipedal bovine humanoids that may stand seven or more feet tall, minotaur reside in the mountains of north central Amarant, far western Al-Khor, and much of Zairath. Groups may range in size from a few familiar members to several dozen, and there is at least one minotaur city. Like centaur, minotaur are a patriarchal race with nearly all tribes being headed by the eldest male; but females are also given warrior training from birth, and are defenders before breeders. Minotaur enjoy competition and often go head to head - literally - in contests of strength, skill, and wit.

Satyrs - Half-human, half-goat. The satyr race makes its home in the valleys of north central Amarant and north central Zairath. While there may have been female satyrs at some point, such is not the case in the present day, and satyr males will abduct and rape females of other species in order to propogate their own. This is a last resort, however - they prefer to make it an enjoyable experience for all parties, and have thusly gained a reputation for possessing both a near-insatiable lust and incredible powers of seduction.

Selkies - Rather than being a cross of two distinct species, selkies are shifters. Found primarily in the icy regions of northern Déchiré, they generally prefer to reside in the sea in the form of a seal or sea lion. A legend surrounding the selkies states that n order to come onto dry land, they must pull off their seal-skins. Men who wish to take a selkie wife have only to find where she has hidden her skin, as she will not be able to return to the sea without it. He, however, must then take great pains to conceal it himself, as his hold upon her will be broken should she recover it. It is notable that in their human form, most selkies wear a seal-skin tied tightly around their neck.

Takarai (Tah - kah - rah - ee) - Takarai are akin to minotaur; bipedal grazers with the head, torso, and hind legs of mountain goats. They prefer a habitat similar to that of satyr, and the two can sometimes be found keeping company.
