The Twin Continents - An Atlas of Amarant and Al-KhorThe Nations of Amarant | The Nations of Al-Khor Known as the 'Twin Continents', Amarant and Al-Khor are two of the few landmasses of Déchiré to remain in close proximity to one another. It is believed that, prior to the Rending, the two were connected via a land bridge of some width. During the upheaval that reshaped the world, however, this bridge was covered by and crumbled into what is now the Eridean Sea. Located wholly above the equator, Amarant hosts a wide range of climates. Portions of the Territory of Ruj'vak are all but permanently covered by ice, while the southern reaches of Soledi, Cormande, and Elhra Eldana enjoy subtropical summers. Temperate forests stretch from the heart of the continent to its western shore, and in the sovereign nations, rolling mountains give way to lush valley meadows. Al-Khor, on the other hand, is a land ruled by extremes. While its coasts offer some respite from the wild swings, its inland regions are quickly overrun by sweltering heat, sand, and the bleached-white bones of unlucky travellers. Once the sun sets, the temperature drops quickly - often nearly to freezing. Even the il-Azel and the Sabhaki, the nomadic tribes of the desert itself, avoid entering its heart whenever possible. Most cities in Al-Khor, if not located on the coast, are built around an oasis. The Eridean Sea is shallow and usually smooth, allowing for communication and trade between the two continents. Many of Déchiré's landmasses are so far apart as to make travel all but impossible, and in some, the existance of other lands has faded to myth and memory. Text © 1999-Present, Scarlet Seraph. |
